Spine without tester question
« on: December 21, 2011, 07:32:06 pm »
I dont have a spine tester  ??? so with using two horizontal nails in the wall and a 2lb weight, how far below the plain of the nails should the bottom of the arrow bend roughly for a 60# bow? using bamboo shafts.

I know its not exact but I was wanting a general idea.

The deflection for a 60# arrow is .433 thousandths.  So you need the arrow to bend that much above or below the plane of the nails.

When I'm making my primitive cane or sourwood shoot arrows I only use a spine tester to find the stiff side of the arrow(goes against the bow) and in some cases you can feel that just by bending the shaft.

If you really want to make it simple, find an arrow that shoots well from your bow, and spine your arrows to match it.

make sure you put your nails 26" apart.  just good practice incase you ever want to make one to AMO spec. someday.  I learned that on here  ;) dpgratz

I do the same except I have a ruler add between my nails. Different inkerments or different weights. Works good for shoot arrows and finding the stiff sides of shafts.
