You need to use a reflex/deflex design and let the limbs fold over to do the work and take the stress off.
Lakeland, Florida
If you have to pull the trigger, is it really archery?

i have encountered many obstacles  during the build of such bows , after many attempts, i realized you can only go so short.. 48" is out of the ?,,, the shortest takedown re curve Ive made was 54" tip to tip,, it was a two PC bow,, it is much easier to build a 3PC take down,, follow mullets advice,, make the riser deflex and the limbs reflex with re curve tips. if using boo back and belly, try a 3PC core ,, the center lam being tapered .with 2 pararrell lams then the boo on both sides .. the whole stack will be much thinner than you think. building like this will let you have an early draw weight and less string follow,,,
