Michigan opener
« on: October 02, 2011, 12:49:50 pm »
I got this dude last night, found him this morning. It was an odd situation. I shot him at 18-20 yards and watched the arrow hit his ribs square. For some reason I had zero blood to follow. The hit was a perfect Zwickey double lunger-pass through. The boys and I went back this morning and seen him in the wheat stubble from the truck! WHEWWWWWW.......I breathed a sigh of relief. I used my recently finished up 57" ntn, 60# rawhide backed static curve, wood arrows and goose/turkey feathers. Very cool experience that I will NEVER forget, just like all the others before him. Its an irreplaceable feeling that drives me to keep doing it year after year!

There's nothing like finding the deer even though you know you made a "perfect" shot.

      Congrats!!!  Nice job!!

Great start to this season Chris, congratulations! Love that sunshine I'm seeing! Send some my way. Nothing but wind and rain here yesterday. What's your limit with a bow in Michigan?

We get two deer tags Artsy. We can use the "restricted" tag on bucks with 4 on one side, the "non-restricted" tag allows any size buck or doe. We have all the doe tags a guy could ask for. Its quite liberal up here, the revenue drives Michigans economy. Believe it or not this is my first opening day buck. I have shot too many deer with a bow to count, but never on the first day. I usally let them walk. This year I had 99% homemade gear with one goal in mind. My broadheads are the only store bought item. I did all my own leather work, bow work and arrow work. Yoru right DASV, stone heads are next.

Its unseasonably cool up here Sonny. It was in the low 50's yesterday and today. Our upper leaves are starting  to turn, but the ground cover is still pretty green and thick. Its suppose to warm up mid week, closer to 70 degrees.
