Question in regards to the belly side of osage

Prior to attempting number three for me, I'm wondering foes the belly side of an osage bow need to be all the same growth ring as well as the back?  I can't imagine that it does but need to ask as I don't want to screw this one up.  Thanks guys and happy Saturday!

Oh one more thing, I'm gonna try for a D shaped bow due to the short length of my stave (60").  Not sure if that applies to my question or not.

No only chase the ring on the back......you would taper the belly to tiller it.

Jeremy, I am working on my first osage bow right now, and Dean Torges book, Hunting the Osage Bow, has been a great resource.  It details the process of tillering.  It is also a great read, beautifully written.

And yes, on osage, as on most any bow, feather the grain out from handle to tips.

Thanks for the replies gents.  I do have the above mentioned book, unfortunately I'm working faster than I'm reading.  I just finished chasing the ring I'll use and think I'm gonna have to put it away until I reach that part of the book.  Thanks for the info again.

the belly will be tapered.you only have to chase the back ring.good luck on your bow,Steve

Make sure you really take your time when marking the bow out that is where i was going wrong for a few bows.
