Seperating Sinew Bundle ?
« on: February 18, 2012, 12:01:01 pm »
Has anyone ever removed the casing from the sinew then soaked in warm water and then separated into the individual fibers? I did, and it seemed to work much easier then dry fiber. The only issue is having enough room to re-dry, when dry they are the color of hide glue. It will be interesting to see when I rehydrate to apply to a bow if this impacted their structure and I am sure I will need to soak much longer in water prior to applying. It just seemed to make the process of the separation much easier.

I have heard of folks wet seperating sinew.   Rehydrating will not affect their integrity.
When the sinew kept poping off of Elkie I removed the entire sheet of sinew/hide glue, soaked it to seperate, rinsed and dried the sinew and used it again on the little sinew backed bow I built not long ago.
