I remember my Grandfather catching wild hogs . My grandmother would cook them down and can them in jars. the fat left over would top out the jars and what was left she would make soap. My Grandad also would collect heart pine(lighter knot) to sell for cooking wood and stove wood.
But one of my fondest memories of my Grandfather was getting a simple drink of cool water in the summer time and drinking it out of his sparkling, clean, tin, soup can he always drank from. The water always seemed cooler. :)
