Help with a pin knot

First time refleing my bow and a pin knot on my lower limb started to crack, it goes width-wise about 1/4", I heard in Gordon's hazelnut bow that he used a rawhide patch to stop it, are there any other ways to prevent this? Thanks, YB

pictures would be best, but does the crack extend past the knot and into the wood?
