serving string

how many ya'll serve yr bow string?
and if you do, do you have a special tool?
if so, which one?
and what material do you serve with?

did a search, couldnt find much...

i have a serving tool
its designed to sit on the string and be flipped to wrap the serving
the serving string itself is just that
a special string for serving

go to 3 rivers site and check,they have a few differant tools and strings

personaly i quit using it
dont care for how wide i have to make the nock to fit the string once its served
i always wanted a harley,untill it became the "thing to ride"
i ride because i love to,not to be part of the crowd

hhmmm-interesting
havent served a string myelf. but he two bows i received in the pa bow trade are both served
and are not any thicker than the rest of the string.
in fact, they are so tight it appears, visually and by feel, to almost be a tad thinner.
my strings(and im just learning)  seem fine without. one bows been shot lots and no fraying or anything.
the "factory" strings i have on a cupla factory bows, are only served at loops and nocking area. with lots of loose string in bewteen.
seems to work fine but i dont like it much somehow.

The purpose of string serving is to protect the string at a place where wear is accessive. It is not necessary but I use it on almost every string I make. On some "primitive" bows I use tan string and no serving to give them a more "primitive" look.
  I use a "Little Spinner" that I got from 3Rivers. There are many different types and they all work well. Before I had a serving tool I used a fat rubber band that is used to hold broccoli together at the grocery store. I put it around the spool of serving to keep it from unraveling and just wrap by hand.
