New Hickory longbow.

Here's the hickory longbow I've been working on lately. It's made from a belly split from a stave I got from PatB in trade. The bow is 68" tip to tip, 66 nock to nock,it's 1.75 inches wide fading to 3/8 tips.and pulls 57# at my 26/27 inch draw.( I'm, beginning to like wide thin bows)The only problem I had with this stave( and it was small) was a small pin knot in the top limb. That's where the bow got it's name from." Top Knot". The backing is python skin. I tried to do a fancy dye job on the tips and riser that turned out halfway decent. I also tried something different with the grip.I glued on the floppy rest then put the handle wrap on, so the floppy rest stuck out of the grip wrap. The bow handles and shoots very well. The bow took about 1/4 inch of set after tillering and breaking in, and has not taken anymore since.
The finish is 6 coats of spray helmsman spar urethane and a good coating of bees wax. Enjoy
unbraced
Braced

Very nice work! Looks like Pat gave you a good chunk to work with. It sure has a nice unstrung profile, very little follow.

For some reason I shoot wide, flat and thin-limbed bows the best, too.

Very nice!
.....Going to another one of "those" days again. I stared and stared at that first picture trying to figure out why you are taking a picture of firewood.
