Snake Skinning day

    I don't know if you still can , I imagine so, but when I was a kid, I remember seeing glass, porceline and chalk eggs, just for the purpose of getting hens to lay, and to replace eggs that you took from them, so they would continue to sit, and lay eggs.  At least that was what I was told then....    Hmmm, I wonder if you took those big plastic Easter eggs, and put in a nest box, if that would encourage her to lay bigger eggs?

Look out Cipriano, I'm working on being a snake magnet.  Found a little snake in the sticky trap we keep inside the garage by the door.  I couldn't get him out alive, so I skinned him after I got him off the sticky stuff.  If anybody is building a 12" bow I'll be offering him for trade very soon...

Wish he was 5' longer.

     Knife sheaf covering!   So how did you get the sticky stuff off of it?  Goo gone, Dawn dish detergent, etc.?

Most of it stayed on the sticky trap.  There's a little on the hide up near the head which is where he was stuck the worst.  I figured I'd let the skin dry and then put some goo gone on it.

That would make a pretty sheath cover.

  Elk hunting would be superb


I live in colorful Colorado, Any time you want to come for Elk let me know I go but every year but im trying it with a bow i made from horseback.

Gus that was not a rattler.  Looks like a blotched water snake to me.  My trade bow has a similar pattern, though much more subdued.  Here's the picture I found of it:



I could be wrong though.

Katt, I've only been elk hunting once in Montana and didn't take a shot, though I had a couple close encounters.  I'd love to go, and would be happy going after a cow, but I'm not much of a horseman and the altitude wiped me out last time.   I could bring you osage staves?

  Got lots of Osage but could always use more  Definitely like to hunt pigs tho if you want to hunt we can set something up, non resident tags are pricey but we can definitely do some hunting. Got Archery season this year. PM me we can talk.


Wouldnt mind some snake skins tho

Looks like the snakes at the lease are gonna be in trouble...

You should've come hog hunting back in March or April.  My last trail cam pictures at the lease  were showing daytime temps in the 105 degree range.  I'm  tentatively planning my next lease get-together on July 8-10.  Want to come down and swelter?  It could be 110 by then.

I'll PM you later, maybe on my next trip in to cool off in the A/C after running the draw knife.

So This would probably a good place to ask the question:

In backing bows with snake skins, does the skin have to be raw or dried, or can you used tanned snake skins?
