Guava Snake Bow Tested
« on: December 23, 2010, 04:08:04 pm »
Here is a snakey bow I have been playing with for a long while. I can see where I could have done a much better job of it but at least it has been shot in and hasn't broke, lifted a splinter, freted, or taken an excessive set. One limb had a badly deflexed outer limb that I should have straightened but I did not think it would hold and not pull out so tillering was intresting. Just tried to make the best bow I could out of what I had to work with. These kind of staves will teach you a lot and I am sure that I will do better on the next one. I got her bending too much close to the handle but I am already only 45# at 29" so don't want to re tiller and lose more draw weight. I will shoot it more and if it holds together will put some skins on it and a hndle wrap. It shot a 500 grain arrow 160 yards.    Kenneth

Wow Kenneth that came out great.  You did real good with a tricky stave.  I think the tiller looks real good, especially for having the deflex in the one limb. Is that a stave from Manny?

Very nice, Kenneth! It came out great. Could you temper the belly and get a few more pounds?

Thanks every one. Keenan, yes it is a Manny stave. Pat it is 67" nock to nock so I guess piking and tempering is an option or I had thought of shortening and touching up the tiller a bit and making it into a ladies bow.    Kenneth

Wow, I get dizzy thinking about tillering one like that. But it must have superpowers, it allows you to stand on the walls while shooting! ;D
