Oh yeah, I guess it does look like white sapwood - except the back of it looks pretty dark. Did you stain it or is that a natural color? I also wonder if BW gets darker with age, since its nuts are good for dark stain.

Right on! Thanks John. Man that looks like sweet wood to work with, was it? How was it to split?

Here's a few more of the finished handle, to pretty to cover up with anything  :D

It was a bugger to get started being so big but once we got it in half it split nice  :)

The color on the back is all natural i think it has that "antique" look to it.

Well done!  Looks like you could go for low orbit from that deck  ;D.  If I might ask, what did you finish it with?

Nice bow.  That black walnut split beautifully for you.  I wasn't so lucky when I split about 4 logs a few weeks ago.  I had kept getting runoffs mid-log  ???

Fine bow, that the recipient should be quite happy with.

Sweet profile on the bow, love that color in the handle. I like those shorter stiff levers too, there is a guy at our cornstalk shoots that has one similar to that made of hickory it's levers are a bit shorter and it shoots wicked. Good job.
