Years to come is right. I planted some in Nebraska when I moved there, got seedlings from the state. 1/2 of them died, but when we moved 10 years later the remaining trees had trunks about the diameter of a golf ball and were about 6' tall (and had wicked long spines). They were tough, the neighbor drove over them with the tractor hauling 500 bushel of beans one fall and every single one straightened up and recovered. I suspect the new owner mowed them off with the bush hog.
Those puppies grow slow. I do hope you get to see the fruit of your labor.
