Howard Hill Longbows
« on: December 02, 2010, 10:25:59 pm »
Hi Everyone

Am wanting to build a Howard Hill or John Schulz Style longbow. Schulz had a line he called "The Naturals" or something along those lines that was a bamboo backed all wood laminate american longbow. Similar to Miller longbows or the early all wood Howard Hill longbows. Was wondering if anyone had any tips on building one of these. Measurements ? Pics ? Idea on taper thickness etc etc. Thanks !

I have a bamboo Hill bow made by Steve Childers.  Steve was a student of J. Schulz.  The bow is 67.5'' tt.  That was the ideal length for my 27.5" draw according to Steve and Mr. Schulz.  Cant give u any more specs until i have the bow in my hands again.  My bow was paterned after Howards 'Grandma" bow.  It is all heat treated bamboo with no backing.  A very sweet shooting bow with good cast.
