Got a couple slabs of this black stone with gold or copper specs in it, any Idea what it is?

I don't know either, bowkee.
The grain size in the pic makes me think of igneous rather than sedimentary.
The dark, blackish color makes me think of something in the basalt family.
The gold flecks could be a lot of things.
And I'm just guessing here. :-\
How's it knap?

Kinda looks like Goldstone. Copper impregnated glass. I have some in dark green and orange. I haven't seen any in black.

If you have to pull the trigger, is it really archery?

Yep, Mullet nailed it. Goldstone is exactly what it is.
I wasn't looking at the possibility of it being something manmade, but that second pic helps.
I thought I was looking at 'gold flecks' in the first pic then realized I was looking at the sun
hitting dust on my screen. ::)
And those are the only three colors I've ever seen of the stuff. Green, Orange, and Dark Blue.
I have seen some small points made out of it before, but would imagine it's a little on the brittle side.
The story goes that this stuff was first made hundreds of years ago by some monks in Italy that
were trying to come up with a substitute for gold, and as far as I know, they are the only ones still
making it today.

im gonna go with goldstone too
although i have never seen it in black
ive had lots of orange/brown,some green, red, purple
but never seen it in black before

it works pretty well for knapping, ask Eddie i gave him i nice knife in the x-mas trade that the blade was goldsone
its tougher than obsidion
likes a proper platform or it will crush
you may find spots that seem tougher than the rest
ive found where ever there is even slight color change in the goldstone it changes the flaking characteristics of it a little bit and makes it either tougher or easier
in that area to flake

abraid it and nock out a point or two and lets see 'em   ;)
