Snap Crakle Pop
« on: June 09, 2010, 09:49:45 pm »
Had it tillered 45 @21 and went to full brace, when I heard a pop. ??? Looked down and heard another. ??? Looked at the nock and saw the boo separating from th IPE :o Heard and saw it go farther. I threw it down hoping not to get hit from an exploding bow. I took the chance and unstrung it. Saved. I thought :(  Was able to get the boo off but a splinter has raised :(  If I superglue it, and re back it do you think it will hold? The boo was to thick and overpowered the glue joint Eric and I had talked about this when I saw him this past weekend. I can chalk this up to a learning mistake ;)

That sux.  I'm learning from this myself, wanting to do a bow with some ipe I have, and have been tossing around backing it with either boo or hickory.  Maybe superglue it, then wrap it with sinew or something and soak that in superglue it as well.

that does suck
but boo is strong stuff
if you do use sinew, you realy dont need the super glue on the sinew
sinew will tighten as it dries, but still wrap tightly when its wet
i always wanted a harley, untill it became the "thing to ride"
i ride because i love to,not to be part of the crowd

I meant to say hide glue with the sinew, and superglue with maybe something like B-50?

Sorry to hear about the ugly noises.  I think if the boo is still good I would put it on another piece of wood.  Better to salvage the boo than to possibly lose both in an ugly explosion.

That is a bummer, but at least you saved the stave. ;)
