Looking for a draw knife...

Well, if I plan on trying a self bow, I'm gonna need a draw knife or 2....
Lee Valley has them, but price runs about 50-60.00  :(bucks

Any suggestions on finding a usable blade for a bit less money?  Maybe antique shops, but I expect anything found there would be about used up.

Ea, antique shops and flea markets are a very good place to find a usable draw knife. The older ones were made with good steel and if you can find one with a good edge(blade pitting is no problem as long as the edge is good) you will have a tool that you can pass down later. Not only are the newer ones expensive but in some cases the edge is the only good steel in them. I have owned 4 draw knives since I began making bows. Only one was new; made by a friend. The other 3 were flea market, antique shot finds that I acquired from friends or relatives.

Check out the big auction site. There are usually some good used ones on there.

you can also use an old planer blade, just build a handle for it

Yeah, you can make one like said. Just look around. I have also found that just about every estate sale, auction, listing tools, has ole drawknives. They were as common as screwdrivers and pipe wrenches, years ago!

Try amazon they have prices for anyones wallet.  I have seen ones from $20 on up and work very well.  I bought mine from amazon spent like 45 and was here in 2 days.

Thank you, I do build most of my bowyer tools by my self , like the little axe on the pics.
On ebay are some nice looking draw knifes at the moment.
You might be able to get one or two for a few bugs .

I remember someone on here posting pics of dozens of drawknives he had purchased as part of a collection.  He was selling/trading them pretty reasonably, too.  I haven't been able to find that posting unfortunately.  The drawknife I used was borrowed and I had to return it before I was done with it, heck I only had it for 6 years!

Anyone remember who might have posted those drawknives?

I just got mine in from raptor archery , $45 works great scrapes good to. sure beats blistering up your hands with a machete......
