eddie, call me tomorrow. Took my son there after school for awhile but the rains hit pretty hard. The area you had noticed and mentioned has a trail camera up in the trees

Russ,  rocks are kinda scarce down here. The ones in the river is limerock and really smooth, unless there is fossil rib bones stuck in it. We just found this spot dragging the canoes through a rapid area when I felt a rough rock. I pulled it up and it was a coral head.

It was just luck of the draw. For 10 years I've just stumbled and dragged through this area without checking on what I had been walking through. Kinda like not fishing at the boat landing; It's got to be better away from where you put in.

also we find rocks in our creeks and other deeper cutting rivers. Its kinda shallow here in Fl. so alot of fossils and corals are exposed, you just have to find the area

Wow thats cool its not like me using Google earth finding a vein then going to look for it.  That is amazing how u found that and also much prettier rock than what I have here in NY.  The GOVT just shut down the Normanskill quarry and no ones aloud near it!  Aint that a pile of crap!  Now I gotta go and search outcrops and rivers again.  I wonder how much is down there?  Im gonna have to give u a shout next time I get down that way.  I think rock hunting is almost more addicting than Knapping isnt it?  Maybe its me..lol  Great story and awesome coral!

Have a good day!

That's a fine little point there Roger - course everything you make is fine ;D. Russ, I'm the same way. Have more fun I think finding the rocks than I do turning them into something. If I ever get around FL again....

the best luck I have had in finding coral WAS to follow the construction sites in different counties that I knew were ancient coral beds. When that slowed down so did my collecting of coral at that time. I found a killer coral site that covered about 60 acres, I found it when they dug for the water mains, I got about 5 tons of good coral there.About 3 ft down inthe trench was a 2 ft thick wall of ancient spalls that ran over 100 yards long.fire pits dotted that place, they were everywhere. I miss stuff like that. I took Claude and his girls there and we had a blast.

Fantastic rocks, I don't even knap (yet) but those are pretty just to look at.

I spalled some of mine this afternoon, I'll cook it up this weekend. And raw coral is sharp.
