rainy day
« on: March 28, 2010, 08:40:41 pm »
It started raining this morning and still is. So I've been piddling around in the shop all day. I decided to finish this Tomahawk I started about two years ago. I think it came out pretty good.

Beautiful hawk. Do you think you'll throw it much with that pretty handle? What type of steel did you use for the outside and the bit?

Penn, the handle is hickory and I'll throw it. I was just experimenting with stain. It was done with Walnut hulls and green leather dye. The head is a slice of 1" pipe with a piece of flat steel welded to it then the groove between the two built up with weld , ground and then the end with the edge heat treated after I blued it.

Now that sounds interesting - the welding part, hmm may have to try that. Like I need more hobbies, prolly take me at least three years ;D.

Thanks Chris. Paul, with my welding, it was more clean up grinding.
