finally achieved "thinness"
« on: March 21, 2010, 10:49:03 pm »
I finally chipped out a decently thin point today without any stacks.  It's thinner at the base and thicker towards the point like they're supposed to be.  Hopefully something "clicked" with me today.  I guess I'll know when I try the next one.  This is another one made from novaculite.  It weighs 117 grains.  Let me know what you think.

Thanks cowboy, I hope so!  Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I did all the shaping and pressure flaking with an antler tine, but I did have to break out the copper to finish up the notches.

You're coming along well!

I had always abo knapped since I started this ride several years ago. I always had trouble at notching with antler. Tried everything that the good knappers used, but just couldn't get those deep narrow notches. Last year  I made me a  nail notcher, and things turned around. Now I am a combo knapper, antler, copper, steel. What ever it takes to get the point made, and keep yourself satisfied. ;) ;)
