Gotcha 
Aren't there alternative methods of doing it as well, such as tucking some tinder down in the hole as you drill? I've never done this before or even seen it done, that's why I'm curious. I do want to try it someday though.
I'm sure there are as many ways to do this as there are people spinning a handrill.
I imagine you could put a little tinder under the hearth board, but you would still have to pick it up and give it some air to get it going.
