Headed to the cabin this morning for a long weekend, got a few things going in the shop and we also have a club shoot this evening, we plan on shooting the main range before we tear it down Saturday, should be fun. I also plan on another Turkey hunt in the morning, season closes in a week or so , so I plan on giving it one more shot. ;) :) Haven't been out since opening weekend. Still got a little clean up to do but mostly just some relaxing around the fire. Hope yall have a good one also. Life is Good.  :) :)

Got my fish pond cleaned out and the fish seem very happy and really growing, they are a little over 2 years old now and doing well. Went Turkey hunting Friday morning in the rain, ran across a dumb one so a pretty short hunt, didn't take long to get the meat and supplies out of him then Brats for lunch.  ;) :) :)

Shawn showed up Friday for some bow work. I got my Osage off the form and all is good, ready for knocks cut and tillering. Made a bow for a friend in 2004 it got to heavy for him and I took some weight off in 2007, he shot it for several years but like all of us he is getting older and couldn't handle the weight so he brought it to the Classic and gave it back to me, I told him I could take some more weight off but he insisted I take it back and use it, the weight is fine for me 48@26 prefect  ;) :) He had re done the grip and handle and I didn't like it so I redone it again and put a hemp wrap on it like I do most of my bows, shoots nice and I plan on taking it to CO. this year on Beau and my trip out west.  :)

i put Marks Hickory bow on the form for some heat treating, nice old straight clean piece of Hickory, should make a nice bow. Shawn brought me some tomato plants , these grown like a big vine and will cover the rails of the porch. Saturday we had a good meeting and working, got all the ranges torn down and targets put away, we need a bigger target shed  ??? :-\ already added on twice but need to do it again. ::) We also got the big vendor tent down and put away, that's about the last big projects we had left to do in the clean up. :) My blue birds have nested in the neck of this deer for 10 + years and got a 2nd bunch of babies on the way this year, the first bunch flew out during the Classic, pretty cool. :)

Got another sign up gifted me at the Classic [Note the sign above it] :-M  hope they read it before breaking in. :) :) Teresa Asbell gave me a case of these glasses at the Classic and wanted me to give one to each member, she said it was Fred's favorite glass for his evening toddy. ;) Then I had a good supper of fried tatters and cheese egg omelet for supper and slept well after a long hard day.  :) Hope yall had a good one also.

I had a chance to chat with Mrs. Asbell and even got a hug from her. I told her the anecdote of meeting him and not knowing it was him until long after the conversation was over. I told her how he and I talked about our origins with archery, about how for me it isn't a live-or-die passion, but simply something that pleases me down deep in the private part of my heart, and how what I like best is teaching and helping others improve their bow-making skills. I laughed and told her how infinitely small I felt after giving THE G. Fred Asbell MY lecture on "The Joy Of Passing It Along"....the guy who made a career of encouraging all bowyers and archers!!!

She's a good'un, her. Every bit as generous of soul as her partner.

Thanks Bob  ;) :) Ya JW she is a good one for sure and Fred was easy to talk to, really down to earth, the first time they came down he and I went in the cabin and had a long talk, like talking to a friend, you would never know he was a legend, guess that's what made him special.  :)

Wet as I expected but great weekend just the same, had some time in the shop, lots of friends dropping by and even took some time to shoot in between showers and storms. Got the knocks cut in my new Osage and ready to start tillering, then went out to put out some salt licks on the farm and broke a front strut on the Kobota so spent the rest of the morning repairing that. Was a mechanic for 50 years so still enjoy wrenching from time to time. :)
