White oak recurve?

Well I cut a small white oak a couple of weeks ago and and bent it into a recurve while green. My question is will white oak stand up to the stress? It has a pretty high crown the tree was only bout 5'' round. It was 64'' long before bent and one and three quarters wide or so. Would this be a good candidate for my first sinew backing job? Thanks

Hey Wayne, White oak is a good wood and it will stand up to the stress fine. You may however want to shorten the bow to atleast 60, I would personally do 58 if you are going to sinew back it. You can shorten it, steam the ends bend it and let it dry. while its drying seperate the sinew and you should be ready to go. You will find that sinew does wonders to the wood and Im sure you will love it. Anywho good luck with it and dont be afraid to try anything new.
