I use #8 nails in mine, which are a little stouter and less likely to bend than a 5 or 6. Most farrier supply stores sell horseshoe nails by the hundred or by the pound. The bigger ones are usually only used on Draft horses...big feet = big shoes + big nails to hold 'em on. Those big horses need to keep shoes on for all the pulling they're required to do.
