Removing turkey feathers from the wing
« on: November 24, 2009, 03:33:08 pm »
How do I remove the turkey wing feathers without harming the feathers?   I've never tried this.

Thanks

i use side cutters and cut them close to the wing.  There is a thread in the buildalong thread for removing the feathers with the quill intact.  Check it out.

I usually cut them off above the meat-don't need the tip of the quill for arrow making. I use side cutters, big heavy scissors, or even the band saw.

Just like the others said, clippers as close as you can get to the flesh.

Ditto on the clipping close to the meat.

Side cutters also. That's the easiest way I have found.I also keep them separate as I cut them off.
left/right and primary and secondary. :) I then put them in a sealed container and spray down with
some kind of good bug spray and seal the container. If you don't do that when you pull the out the mites can eat them up right at the quill. :)
