I thought it was novaculite when i saw thw colors in the samples that where displayed. i guess i have never seen this type of chert.

not sure im new to this , found four boulders total today all are half as big as my little izuzu truck ! im gonna be knocking chunks for a while!!

Ken ud better save some of that for me ;) ;) I wish I could drive down ur present im almost done I am so damn picky it almost consumes me Holmegaard sits here almost done, I made a Iron wood/HHB snakey wich my draw knife ripped into a knot and went to deep..that made me mad that was a nice one...now I have a musclewood ELB on the tiller..lookin good but has a slight snakey ness on one limb...it looks great strung but has a waggle unstrung that bothers me..I will just give it to u and maybe get u one those other ones..But Im still gonna mak u a great bow...One ul never get or find ul see... Hey did u get my message..was wondering if anyone knows where and what to look for to find stone in newyork state!!!

hey a local ! no its from cedar springs , i work at the mill , so i go by on the way home its in the right of way on a dirt road
 sailor im bumping it "lightly" with a hammer on the ledges it spalls usually with one hit, trying to make sure i dont fracture the rock

hey ken, thats some costal plain alright.  the stuff on the outter edges is going to be your best stuff.  the lumpy concrete in the middle is pretty much usless.  if youcan find smaller pieces like the size of a football or fist size you'll get a better quality.  it will heat good at about 450  but you have to dry it for at least 8 hrs.  that stuff holds alot of water!!  i no a guy in dothan  thats has tons in his yard you can go and knap with thats a great guy.  if you want i'll pm his # for ya.

     Ken75, just put those big boys on a flat bed and head for Pappy's.   :o
He will even show you some knapping techniques.  8)  At least I would think he would.  You would, wouldn't you Pappy? ;D

after seeing pappy's bows and his weekend builds i was going to ask him to adopt me , and tenneesse to boot ! i'll bring a flatbed of rock and some staves .. pappy i dont eat much !

Nice Find there, Ken! That ought to last you awhile. ;)
And I agree with what knap_123 said. Looks like the coastal plains chert I've been
collecting from the Savannah River just south of Augusta, but yours is much
whiter in color. I have to 'dry it out' before I can actually cook it or else it will
crack up in the fire when heated. A few days next to a wood stove or buried under a
few inches of sand in a pit fire ought to do it.
I see a LOT of bonfires in your future. ;D
