silk-backed yew heartwood wonky bow

well, we'll see how this goes...the last 2 bows i made from this dead tree exploded, this one has a silk backing but it is VERY weirdly shaped.  We'll see...





I'm gonna keep the poundage down. 

The bow is currently drawing 30# at 14".  If i can get any decent kind of shape out of it, i might try to raise the poundage a little bit, or just keep it low and give it to a kid.  I've got a kid in mind who might love it.  It has a hump style handle to maximize the length of the limbs, since the stave is only 57" long in total, and maybe 1.25" wide at the widest.

Looks to me like now would be a good time to put a little heat on that one. Lookin good though.

i don't think i can heat it, bro...it's got 2 layers of silk on the back, glued on with tb2.

What kind of wood is it ,Osage or Yew ?

Guess I should have read the title. ::) Dead yew I don't know about,dead Osage is usually good if you go down deep. :) If I have a questionable piece of I wood I usually take a small piece off
of it and make a little bow and bend test,you can tell by doing this if it will take a bend or not most of the time. It saves time on working on a piece of wood that isn't going to make a bow. :) Don't
mind to bad blowing one but I at least want it to be my fault and not just a bad piece of wood
that no one could have made a shooter from. :)

yeah Pappy it's crap.  I got rid of most of the wood i had from that tree yesterday.  We'll see if this one holds up at 30#, if not, oh well.
