help for a noob bowyer
« on: June 25, 2009, 12:17:11 am »
ok i am wondering how i can make a longbow with 36" wood? the Rockler Woodworking store near where i live has maple, mohagony, paduak, purpleheart, zebrawood, wenge, cherry, and red and white oaks all at 3 ft tall.

ive looked at almost every buildalong for laminated bows but none specify the lengths of the lams

thanks, illuminati

Use the search function look for splicing.  Or bow in the how- to section.  Maybe that will help with design.

Here's a link to a good splicing post.

You know you could probably save the wood working store for buying the exotic woods for handles and such. If you have access to a Lumber place Ie Lowes or Home depot you could get some 6' red oak boards for probably quite a bit cheaper than your specialty wood workin store will have the 3' peices,.. and it will save you the splicing troubles.  Ty
