Some field finds ( new pictures)
« on: June 14, 2009, 11:34:36 pm »
I picked these up today in a tobacco patch.  Nothing fancy, but fun and good excercise.  That Hardin got me a little excited.  It's got a bad impact fracture, but the base is a fine example of what the one I made the other day should  have looked like.  It's made out of Sonora flint.  That stuff just gets prettier as it ages.

Nice finds Shannon! I looked that Hardin up and yup, they look exactly like that ;D. Think I'm going to make some to add to the collection.

I hit that same field the first pictures came from again this evening.  The farmer had just plowed and it hadn't had enough rain on it to really expose a lot of points.  I found a few pieces, but nothing really exciting.
The first picture is the field.  It sits on a bench above a creek bottom (good spot for a camp) ;D  The other pics are some points as I found them.

It's a shame ya'll have to deal with plows to find points. Nice finds.

I forgot the picture of the field.
Eddie, believe it or not...most all the broken points I find are ancient breaks.  Unless it was a pretty big point to begin with, the plows and discs don't break as many as you would think. ???

Great pic's Shannon! I hadn't been looking for points in a long time, will have to go give it a try again one of these days.
