I've been looking through the TBB's and a number of my other books, as well as looking at all the popular ones on the market today. There's alot of variety in blade designs, but all the ones that people are happy with (penetration wise) have the ferrule close to the actual tip. This would explain why Howard Hill's long broadheads and Case's short broadheads both outperformed the lesser of the other person's favored design.
