Dave, the arrow has a hardwood foreshaft that i havnt had a chance to cut down and put a point on yet, so it will be shorter. not much, but shorter. as it is now, it flys strait and pretty flat, so ill cut off a bit, then mount a field point on and test it, then repeat untill it flies good again.
Jawge, thanks, that means alot coming from you! the chrysals came after i did the second heat treating. it was weak in thoes 2 spots just outside the handle. being out of the game for so long, i wasnt paying enough attention when i got it back on the tree. i also think i let it re-hidrate too long. oh well, when i make mistakes like this, it helps me learn how to fix em.
Parnell, thanks, i like that coloring too, when you hold it just right it looks green, but then you turn it a little it looks more grey. as for the reflex, when i did the initial heat treating (i usually do 3), i induced about 3 inches of reflex, which it kept about 2 inches. then i tillered it out to about 10" and flipped the tips with dry heat. i did it from the side like Manny suggests, and it didnt split or check on the belly. the tips do need to be a bit thicker so they will hold the reflex. the way i do it is to clamp the tip on the caul, and add a few c-clamps at the handle for weight. then slowly heat the tips from the sides.
