Will superglue work for tip overlays?
« on: May 16, 2009, 11:07:58 am »
I'm making an osage bow with some really narrow tips, the narrowest I've ever done before.  I'm hoping this will minimize handshock and increase speed.  However, the tips are so narrow that I can't put conventional nocks on them, so I was gonna put some wedges on the back like Tim Baker does on his bows with very narrow tips, but I only have superglue to glue them on.  Will superglue work?  Does it have enough strength?  I don't have any other glue available at the moment and wanted to use what I had, as long as it will work.  I also don't care about looks, so if the superglue looks a little messy, that's no problem.  I just want to try a very narrow tipped bow to see how it performs.

Thanks guys.

Superglue works just fine. I glued tips this morning and just shaped them.
The not so liquid kind is preferred!

back nocks aren't a whole lot different.  make sure the surfaces are really flat.  i use super glue for regular tip overlays all the time with no problems.  i use my belt sander to make sure everything is flat and will mate up good.  haven't had a failure yet.  give it a shot if nothing else you can run to wally world for some 5 min epoxy.

Not long ago I tried 5min Epoxy and had failure on both tips, never had failure with normal Smooth-on or any superglue.
...and yes, beltsander and Aceton!

All I use.  I use an industrial strength glue with slight gap filling properties
