Can I use spanish cedar for backing on a red oak board bow? I have a friend who owns a marine cabinet shop and I can get all the scrap I want.

Spanish cedar is pretty weak and soft. It is not a good backing material for red oak. You may try it as a selfbow, or cedar laminated onto cedar. But it probably does not do well when combined with a powerful wood as red oak.
