Which Woods Are Best?

 I was curious what you all feel are the top five woods for bow making? Thanks.

1. Dry wood
2. Bug free wood (with no holes)
3. Wood that is at least 3 ft long.
4. Free wood
5. Clear, straight-grained wood with no knots.

I like #4 Patrick, ya wouldn't happen to have any wood you ;) :D

maple,elm, hickory, HHB, osage, yew, B. Locust, mulberry, birch, serviceberry, hackberry, persimmon, apple, pear and about a thousand others :)

Proper design and knowing the limitations of the wood your using are more important.

I like the list I once read somewhere (TBB?)

Availability and Cost
Difficulty preparing and drying
difficulty working
Physical qualities

Yew and Osage are great bowwoods but I have to import osage ans yew is expensive while hazel grows in great quantities which makes hazel an as good bow wood for me.
Depending which "quality" of the list is most important to one, he has to decide which wood is best for him.

Osage, black locust, hickory, hop hornbeam, oak, and yew in no particular order are my top 6.  It kind of depends on my mood. Jawge
