Yea Pappy,What hillbilly said.I'm glad it wasn't just me.I didn't have it bend much in the handle. As I tillered, it seemed like it did it on it's own.I never worked oak either, but it sure aint like hickory.I guess you have to leave it real thick???

I probably should have left more wood on it when I roughed it out, never worked with oak much, either.

It was stiff when you sent it to me Steve.I might have taken too much off.Oak has a milder taste than hickory when smokin' mullet and other fish.

Maybe I better send a bag of hickory chips from Walmart to mullet before he gets my bow.

Pappy the only suggestion I have is to shorten it and really turn the tips up.Acting like green wood is why I torched the belly with the heat gun.It helped a little then started to drop weight again fast.Thats why I quit.Oh,forgetting about the glue up.probally can't bend the tips.I'd still pike it though.

It does look like the limbs should bend a bit more. Generally, I think a arc of a circle through the handle and out to the recurves.
I thought you guys were bowyers. Don't be blaming the poor stave.
I have made a few white oak bows but they were ALB style bows. They performed quite well. I haven't made a bow with the wood from this particular tree. I cut it out of my front yard 3 or 4 years ago. Pat

Hillbilly it is looking good so far. What weight and draw did you want.I probably have it somewhere but can't fine it.Getting Old I guess. The more I work with it the better I like the wood.My have
been the oil and heat I had to put on it that makes it work smoother.

Pappy, I usually draw 26"-27", and whatever weight you get is fine. Most of mine are somewhere in the 45-60# range.
