new hickory stave and greetings

Merry Christmas Day guys and greetings,my name is Dave Tarbell ,Im from central North Dakota the land of snow and cold,and great deer hunting.I got a new hickory stave and my plans are 64 inches ntn ,2 inches wide at the fades ,tapering the last 12 inches to 1/2 inch at the nocks,3/4 inch thick at the fades to 5/8 inch at the nocks.This is my first attempt and would appreciate any suggestions.Id like to get somewhere around 60  #  at 26 inches ,thanks Dave.

The secret to hitting your desired weight is going very, very, very, very,very slowly.  Scrape, then exercise the bow a dozen or better yet a dozen and a half pulls.  Then scrape slowly, exercise, then scrape slowly, exercise.  Did I mention go slowly?  Going slowly is the big secret.  If you rush it, I can promise you will have a bow much lighter than you wanted.  Have fun.  You have just started the best hobby on the planet.

You will have plenty of wood for sure.  Don't get in a hurry to remove it. Patience is absolutely the most valuable tool to getting any shooting bow, not to mention hitting the target weight. Justin
