Boards of oak or hickory are the cheapest and also the fastest way to build a bow. Since they are already dry. A longer bow is easier to start with also they're not as temperamental about perfect tiller. This is what we all strive for but I'm yet to get it. The main ingredients to building a bow though is patience and persistence.

Do you want to cut your own or buy wood? Where do you live and what access to trees do you have. You can buy red straight grained oak boards from lumberyards/home centers and they will be a good starting place like hickory switch said. My site has info. Jawge
