Elk horn overlays?
« on: November 28, 2008, 01:08:48 pm »
First I want say hey to all its been a while. And Thanks for all the advise on a Black Locust stave I posted about sometime back. Finally getting down to a bow with this thing ( my first stave to bow) been taking my time. Any way once its a bow (hoping not firewood) I want to overlay nock with elk horn. What epoxy or glue would be best for this.
Once its done hoping to find someone that can post pics and get some on here.
 Thanks Again

I've had good luck on tip overlays with two-ton epoxy or gel superglue. Any decent glue would probably work.

Progress might have been all right once but it's gone on for far too long.

Same for me... I've had good results with 5min epoxy, and equally good results with thick cyanoacrilate glues.

I like epoxy better for this (had at least one supergued tip pop off from abuse  :)) but I think it mostly has to do with matching the viscosity of the glue to the porosity of the piece of antler. Dave
